The Esposito surname is derived from the Latin "expositus," which means "to place outside." It may also mean "explain" and, perhaps, "exposition." According to Wikipedia it was often given to children who were abandoned or given up for adoption by their parents, but we have not been able to confirm this from other sources. This name is most common in southern Italy.

  • Angelo Esposito born February 20, 1989, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian ice hockey player who currently plays for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. He is considered as a top prospect for the 2007 NHL Entry Draft

  • Anthony James Esposito (born April 23, 1943 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey goaltender, who played in the National Hockey League. He is considered one of the pioneers of the butterfly style.

  • Anthony Esposito is a film producer whose credits include Executive Target (1997), Camouflage (2001) and WiseGirls (2002). Before he became a producer, he was a makeup artist on television shows including Moonlighting and Baywatch and films such as Hard to Kill (1990).

  • Franck Esposito (born April 13, 1971 in Salon-de-Provence) is a former swimmer from France, who won the bronze medal in the 200 metres butterfly at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

  • Giancarlo Esposito (born April 26, 1958) is an American film and television actor. Esposito is probably best known for his portrayal of Det. Mike Giardello on the TV crime drama Homicide: Life on the Street, a role he played from 1998 until the series' cancellation in 1999. Other TV credits include NYPD Blue, Law & Order, The Practice, and Fallen Angels: Fearless.

  • Mary Ann Esposito is the host and creator of the television program, Ciao Italia with Mary Ann Esposito. Ciao Italia has aired on more than 270 Public Television stations nationwide since its debut in 1989.

  • Mauro Esposito (born June 13, 1979 in Torre del Greco, Naples) is an Italian footballer for Cagliari Calcio of Serie A. He plays in the role of offensive right wing, is tall 172 cm and weighs 70 kg.

  • Phil Esposito OC (born February 20, 1942 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) is a retired professional hockey center who played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. He is an Honoured Member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and is considered to be one of the best to have ever played in the National Hockey League.

  • Raffaele Esposito was the Italian owner of a tavern called Pizzeria di Pietro e Basta Cosi in the Nineteenth Century. It is suggested by some that he was the father of the modern pizza, having cooked one for the royal family of Italy in 1889.

  • Vincenzo Esposito (born January 3, 1969, in Caserta, Campania) is an Italian professional basketball player.
